Are you ready to make the move from the ice to the bench? It’s one of the best ways to stay in the sport.
Becoming a coach takes more of a commitment than being a player. You are responsible for practices and organization, game days and team events. As a player you have the greatest knowledge base for becoming a coach.
So where to start?
The internet has a million and one coaching articles. From drills to evaluations, it’s all there. One source for dills and coaching material is iplayhockey.ca. You can also check out Just For Coaches. Both of these sites will help you set ups your practices.
Check with your municipal offices. Many places will have coaching clinics to help you understand the basics of coaching across all sports.
Talk to your team. Not only will it help you understand what works best with them, you may learn a thing or two you didn’t know.
