Accident benefits are underwritten by AIG Insurance Company of Canada. This website will provide you with a brief description of the coverage available. The full details of the coverage are contained in the policy including limitations, exclusions and termination provisions.
Hockey is a fun sport that provides many benefits, but is also a high-risk and rigorous sport. CARHA Hockey supports and protects adult recreational hockey by providing hockey insurance programs for leagues, teams, and pick-up and shinny groups for men and women across Canada.

*Any individual that CARHA Hockey recognizes as a registered member in good standing has coverage when involved in a CARHA Hockey approved event. An approved CARHA Hockey event/activity takes place at the direction and with the approval of the CARHA Hockey.

Why do I need Hockey Insurance?
- As a high-risk sport there are chances of being injured. If injured playing hockey you can submit a claim to receive reimbursement for treatment expenses through our Sport Accident Claims process.
- Provides Liability protection for player on player accidents in the event that you injure someone.
- Provides protection for the person responsible for booking/signing ice contracts
- Provides liability coverage that is often required in order to rent ice
- Provides protection for league executives and organizers in the case of bodily injury, property damage, or death
- Provides coverage for all teams, players, spares, coaches, managers, trainers, executives, and volunteers. In addition, arenas, municipalities, businesses and/or sponsors are covered as additional insured

What is the cost of Hockey Insurance?
CARHA Hockey's Membership Program is $23 per player annually. Receive an insurance quote.
How long am I covered for?
CARHA Hockey's insurance (in association with Dan Lawrie Insurance Brokers Ltd and C&C Insurance Consultants) coverage is in effect from October 1 - September 30 each year.
If I get injured, how do I submit a claim?
CARHA Hockey provides a no-hassle accident claims process. If you sustain an on-ice injury simply complete and submit the Sport Accident Claim Form to our office. (Sport Accident Claims must be received within 90 days of the incident).
Injury Reporting - Hockey related accidents requiring professional assistance must be reported to CARHA Hockey within 90 days of the injury.
Coverage is in place providing members have been seen by a doctor or dentist within 30 days from their date of injury.
How long does it take for a claim to be processed?
Providing everything is in order, your claim will be processed within 2 weeks of it being received by the Insurance company(in association with Dan Lawrie Insurance Brokers Ltd and C&C Insurance Consultants) .
Conditions for the Insurance
Coverage is effective upon receipt of player rosters and applicable membership fees. Claims may not be honored for teams / leagues delinquent in administration.
As a secondary insurance provider, please note that you are eligible to receive up to 100% per benefit.
Play must be non-contact and all players must wear CSA approved helmets.
Glossary of Important Terms
Facial Protection Policy - Players wearing full facial protection or half shield (visor) with an internal or external mouth guard will be allowed to submit a medical and / or dental claim for a facial injury. Member players not wearing facial protection equipment will not be insured for a facial or dental injury.
Dental Claims - Accidental dental injury expenses shall only apply to whole, sound, natural teeth
MRIs - the insurance program does not cover MRIs
Loss of Earnings - the insurance program (in association with Dan Lawrie Insurance Brokers and C&C Insurance Consultants) does not include Loss of Earnings coverage
Outside of Canada Coverage - Members traveling out of country to play hockey in CARHA Hockey sanctioned events are covered for all on-ice activity. Members are strongly advised to obtain Travel Insurance to ensure full protection in the event of illness or accidental injury. With respect to the General Liability coverage, there is worldwide coverage but any lawsuit must be brought in Canada to be defended by the Insurer. Please note that the accident coverage is included for hockey injury related claims while in the U.S.
Spare Players - Spare players are permitted to play five games before they will be required to submit the full membership fee
Important Notice - CARHA Hockey and its insurers (in association with Dan Lawrie Insurance Brokers Ltd and C&C Insurance Consultants) do not support the use of alcohol and/or drugs while participating in the game of hockey. Should activity present itself, the insurance coverage provided by our organization could be jeopardized
Pregnancy - CARHA Hockey welcomes the participation of pregnant women who wish to play adult recreational hockey. For safety purposes, we recommend that you consult your physician prior to playing hockey. Please note that coverage does not apply to injuries sustained that affect the term of pregnancy
It is ultimately the responsibility of the league organizer and/or executives to manage the league's policies and day to day operations. As such, any decisions relevant to matters taking place within the league are autonomous to CARHA Hockey.
*NOTE: Insured members must be permanent residents of Canada and at least 18 years of age. (Some exceptions apply)

THE INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN HIGHLIGHTS THE CARHA HOCKEY INSURANCE PROTECTION PROGRAM BUT DOES NOT CREATE OR CONFER ANY CONTRACTUAL RIGHTS AND THE BENEFITS AVAILABLE DURING THE PERIOD OF MEMBERSHIP MAY VARY BASED ON MARKET CONDITIONS AND BENEFIT AVAILABILITY. IF THERE IS ANY QUESTION OF INTERPRETATION ALL RIGHTS AND BENEFITS WILL BE GOVERNED BY THE TERMS OF ACTUAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE INSURANCE POLICY IN FORCE DURING THE PERIOD OF MEMBERSHIP. CARHA HOCKEY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO AMEND, SUBSTITUTE OR REVOKE ANY OR ALL OF THE BENEFITS AVAILABLE UNDER THE CARHA HOCKEY INSURANCE PROTECTION PROGRAM WITHOUT NOTICE IN ITS SOLE DISCRETION.
