Hockey Helps the Homeless
The Cause
The face of homelessness changes every day. 30 years ago, the homeless population was not nearly as visible as it is today and over 90% of the homeless were adult men. Today, it is estimated that there are between 150,000 and 300,000 homeless people in Canada, with children and young families making up the fastest growing segment of the homeless population -- despite the fact that Canada ranks as one of the top 20 wealthiest nations in the world.
Hockey Helps the Homeless doesn’t pretend to have all of the answers but we're not afraid to ask the tough questions, get people talking and ask for support. We rely heavily on the experts: the charitable outreach organizations across Canada with whom we partner and whose mission it is to help end homelessness in our lifetime.
If you want to learn more about the homeless situation in your community, we encourage you to go online and check out the websites of our outreach partners or make arrangements to visit and volunteer at a local homeless shelter
