Second Period - The 1980s
The 1980’s saw the leadership torch of the Association change hands from Mr. Gouett to the COHA Board of Directors. The demand and popularity of tournaments continued to grow and the Board held annual World Cup tournaments across the globe. Some of the sites included Amsterdam, Zurich, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Munich and Nice.
Throughout this decade the Board focused on the various needs of the adult recreational hockey community across the country. The annual tournaments, insurance protection (in association with Gifford Associates Insurance Brokers) and league support that COHA offered all assisted in building and maintaining the relationships with their clients.
By 1991, COHA was servicing approximately 2,500 teams, 2,000 more teams than just a decade prior. At this time, the association also welcomed the 30 to 35 age division. Shortly thereafter, possibly the most significant transformation to date occurred. In 1996, COHA was re-branded to CARHA Hockey and they began servicing all hockey enthusiasts from 19 years of age and older.
