With the new branding and age divisions opened up, CARHA Hockey decided to redesign their main tournament structure. The CARHA Hockey World Cup was born; it was based on an Olympic theme; hosted every four years and represented the largest adult recreational hockey tournament in North America. The tournaments would also be exclusive to Canadian sites. The first edition was held in Toronto, Ontario and boasted 96 teams from 11 different countries. If any Canadians had missed the tournament back in 1982, this would be their chance to play and compete with European competition.
Since 1996 this prestigious event has been held in Vancouver, BC (2000) in CARHA Hockey’s hometown, Ottawa, ON (2004), and Quebec City (2008). The most recent tournament was held March 4th to March 11th held in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. This edition was the largest international adult recreational hockey tournament in the world with 170 teams coming from twelve countries across the globe including 10 women's teams.
